Frankly, it's not the business of foreigners from the West to be telling China how to run its country, isn't that what's been happening to China up to 1948, when China finally got down to the business of making its own decisions about how to live. Is it socialist or is it capitalist? Debate all you like, China is trying to survive and prosper in a capitalist world, a world that would rather China surrender to imperialism, so it does what it has to in order to navigate through a world that's largely hostile to China. So as they used to say, 'China's feet unbound!'

I agree 1000%, it's most definitely not our place to tell china what to do and they're clearly showing us in the West that they know how to do it and how to do it better anyway

Yes and this is not something that applies just to China, for centuries we in the West have telling the rest of the world what to do, how behave, to get 'civilised'. Enough!

So I generally agree wrt China. China is by most indicators doing well, as viewed by her citizens and many outside observers, and is fast winning over the Global Majority. Results matter, which provides evidence to marvel and learn from at certainly.

But as it regards not telling another country about what they should do or not to do, while commendable, consider this:

You have Israel going rouge clearly conducting genocide of a people, gang-held defenseless by the United States and allies. Will you say it is not your place to comment or intervene? Especially if you are a US or UH or EU citizen (apart from Spain and Ireland)? Or how the centuries-old Western colonial cancer is still rampaging an already soft international system? Seriously?

Yes, agreed but Israel is a Western country, part of the Imperialist cabal, you'll note that I said it's Western countries telling the rest of the world what to do.

Yes, I did. But I am interest more in the general proposition. What if China, out of the cultural character of her peoples, starts to tell/force the West to do different, maybe better, more equitable, less imperial and less violent? Maybe it is not China but Namibia. Is it okay for one country to tell/force another not to self-harm or damage others?

Well if, when that day arrives, hopefully we have the same opportunity to say, fuck off but it seems to me that you're looking for a dog to kick.

Great! Not my intent. Just looking for help with a question I had for myself for the longest time.

The fact is, historically and culturally, China has never been that way - China's actions the world over clearly indicate that it would not become a hegemon - the way it lifted its own people out of poverty is being used in many countries around the weorld now, and China is helping - completely the opposite of what Western media and politicians allege and completely the opposite of what Western powers have historically done

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I never thought about how to recognize trolls and why they troll YouTubers like you. They show up in our daily life as often as scammers do...

Thanks Joni, they are a regular part of my life, just something we need to get used to when we live in China and speak the truth

I would recommend that people watch Dr. Richard Wolff's YouTube podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mjVP09XqbM. He provides a decent articulation on why he thinks that China is neither Communist or Capitalist... rather, the country and its leadership has embraced Socialism with a controlled capitalism governance.

Well said Jerry. Everyone who has the means to do so should visit China for themselves before coming to any judgement upon it.

"....Hilary Clinton, for example, a woman who served as a Senator for New York, and was married to a President, has apparently earnt over $22 million dollars since leaving politics - nice work if you can get it...."

Oh, that's just her pocket money. The Clintons have channeled hundreds of millions of dollars of bri..., sorry I mean "donations", into their tax-exempt Clinton Foundation.

I'm sure you're right - they were wealthy to start, they're obscenely wealthy now

My recollection is that they were not wealthy when they set out in Arkansas, but that around when he intitially wobbled and lost some power there, they went on the take big time.

So even entering the White House, they were already on the take.

Some of the story, but not all of it back to the start, here:

Wow, that is a big scandal, or it ought to be - I wonder why Trump spent so much energy on destroying the economy doesn't go after people like this, if he wants a reputation as a man of peace and a reformed, he's definitely not going the right way about it

Ok, lifting millions out of poverty is good, but of course not that people can now drive instead of cycling, but where are the socialist, i.e. Marxist character traits of China?

Expand full comment
Jerrys take on China's avatar

As I said, I'm no expert on the theories but if you visit and ask Chinese people questions, you'll find evidence of socialist traits all over China - Xi himself is an avowed Marxist and follow the principle that whatever is good for the people, will be good for the country
